Imperial Fist Primaris Captain
January 6, 2021For me 2020 was a bad paintng year, I just didn’t get much done. When I finally got round to pick up my brushes I wanted to get back up to speed. I decided I would start with yellow. I had the Priamaris Captain in Gravis Armour from the Dark Imperium box set sat in my draw doing nothing. Because of that I decided to paint it up as an Imperial Fist.
How I painted the Imperial Fist Captain
I don’t paint with an airbrush and decided to prime the miniature with CW Black rattle can primer. This did give me some trouble with the base coat at the start. If I where to paint another Imperial Fist I think I’d start with a white primer.
Once I got the base coat of GW Averland Sunset on, I gave the the armour a glaze/wash of Vallejo Black Red. This darked the recesses and gave the the armour a slight orange feel which would work well for the shadows.
The highlights were layered on using GW Yriel Yellow and Vallejo Ice Yellow. Then glazes of GW Averland Sunset where use to blend the layers together. and Vellejo Black Red was use as a glaze to reinforce the shadows.
The black trim was done with layers of Vallejo Black, Vallejo Dark Sea Blue, Scale75 Arctic Blue and Vallejo Off White.
The cape was Vallejo Black Red, GW Mephiston Red, GW Wild Rider Red. I started base coating it with GW Mephiston Red. Next I layered the hightlights using mixes or GW Mephiston Red and GW Wild Rider Red. Then I added the shadows using Vallejo Black Red. Finally I glazed the shadows and highlights together with the base coat.
I achieved lightning effect on the power sword by using thin layers of Vallejo Blue Violet. With further layers of a mix of Vallejo Blue Violet and Vallejo Off White.
